M+A Growing File Support: Start moving large video files as soon as you press record
Shorten transfer time for large video files
The latest release of Signiant Manager+Agents (V12.1) has an interesting new feature, especially for very time sensitive applications. ‘Growing File Support’ allows you to start transmitting your files to their destination before they’re completely written, shortening the overall time window to send large files.
Growing File Support is especially helpful in any live event production, but will shorten the timeline whenever you need to send large files. In beta, we saw a lot of interest in this feature from our sports and news customers.
If you’re covering a sporting event, for instance, Growing File Support allows you to start the transfer of footage just as the game begins, so you don’t have to wait until a 3-4 hour period is over to start the transfer. As the game ends, you could pack up your truck rather than transfer files.
In newsgathering, time lines as well as circumstances are far less predictable than with sports. Being able to exit the scene as soon as filming is complete could be a welcome advantage.
How does Growing File Support work?
Growing File Support allows production crews to transfer in-progress files before the file is complete by constantly monitoring the file and transferring any data as soon as it is discovered.
Then, when a preset amount of seconds have passed without any file changes, the file transfer is declared complete.
It’s a pretty simple feature but definitely helps to reduce the overall time to transfer large files with M+A.
