Sports Video Group | Dalet, Signiant Target Multisite Sports Operations with New Tech Partnership
By Jason Dachman, Managing Editor, Sports Video Group
Dalet and Signiant have announced the API integration of their flagship products at sports, postproduction, and broadcast organizations in the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands. The joint solution combines one of Dalet’s widely used media-asset-management (MAM) platform with Signiant’s file-transfer and media-delivery software.
This resulting workflow can potentially offer new efficiencies for multisite sports operations and multivenue sports productions.
“Sports coverage is a great example of how the Signiant/Dalet partnership delivers real value to customers,” says Raoul Cospen, director of marketing, Dalet. “Event coverage is dynamic and fast-paced, often involving multiple venues and production centers. With our combined solution, content for replays, highlights, and game wraps can be automatically transferred among different sites at breakneck speeds. This integration streamlines and accelerates production, giving operators, editors, and producers access to exactly the right shots from any location.”
In terms of contribution, content can be automatically imported into the system, saving time and resources. Transfers, including conversions into different formats with associated metadata, can also be automated for site-to-site or multisite delivery. Signiant leverages available bandwidth to accelerate these transfers.
“Sports production and broadcasting places immense demands on workflows and staff due to the vast amount of content and the speed with which it must be produced, compiled, and distributed,” says Rick Clarkson, VP, product management, Signiant. “Signiant’s file-movement and centralized-management technology together with Dalet’s comprehensive sports workflow products enables a completely integrated workflow involving wide-area collaboration, movement and incorporation of archive material, and distribution of clips and file-based content to affiliates and distribution platforms — all in a totally seamless manner.”
Dalet Enterprise Edition creates a cross-system MAM with a centralized content catalog that manages media, essence files, and metadata across systems, storing and tracking contextual sets of associated multimedia along with metadata. Assets are readily searchable and accessible across the organization using Dalet tools or other third-party broadcast or business systems.
Signiant’s Media Managers+Agents software provides security, management, and control of automated file exchanges between clients, speeding such tasks as the processing of raw content, adding metadata, or formatting conversions for distribution in other countries. Meanwhile, Signiant’s Media Exchange software facilitates desktop-to-desktop transfers for distributed media organizations.
“The Dalet/Signiant partnership … [makes] multisite collaboration and access to content seamless, whether it is through a centralized content catalog or multiple independent databases that are communicating together,” says Cospen. “The Dalet workflow engine can seamlessly control the Signiant platform to trigger exchange workflows that move and copy video between multiple sites. It’s transparent for the users, and exchanges are faster and optimized.”
Clarkson adds, “We understand the complexity of what our customers are trying to accomplish and know that, as files move around the world, they must originate from and arrive into a tightly integrated technology ecosystem. Partnership with Dalet addresses this level of technical integration for customers.”
